EDL - GOV'T APPROVED DUST OIL
EDL is an emulsified crude/asphalt oil designed to capture and hold fine dust for an extended period of time, as well as gluing the aggregate surface together. Indeed, when proper aggregate and application procedures are followed, many times the sprayed area will look identical to pavement on light traffic areas. This happens when a high residual asphalt oil penetrates good quality road gravel or recycled asphalt gravel usually to a depth of 1/4" - 1/2".
Application is done in two stages. First the ground is pre-watered to help the emulsified oil (oil and water mixture) penetrate the soil. The water portion in the emulsion helps the oil to spray properly and penetrate the ground. After it is sprayed, the water portion quickly separates and evaporates. For best results, grade beforehand and keep traffic off after, for 24 hours.
